The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (Low German Hamborg [ˈhambɔːχ]) is a  self-governing city-state of the Republic of Germany. With more than 1.8 million inhabitants, Hamburg ist Germany’s second largest city and the 8th largest city in the European Union, as well as Europe’s largest city that’s not the capital of an EU Member State.
